Health Screening

All individuals who apply for volunteer placements at Eastern Health are required to undergo health screening, which assists us in making informed placement decisions.

Health screening for health-care workers is a requirement of the Public Health Agency of CanadaDo not proceed with the health screening process until meeting with the volunteer coordinator. Volunteers are required to provide documentation confirming the following:

1) Immunity to MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella (Chicken Pox)
2) Assessment of Tuberculosis (TB)

Youth between the ages of 14-17 years are required to provide signed parental/guardian consent to have the TB testing performed.

Health screening process

1. Immunity to MMR and Varicella

Immunity to MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella (Chicken Pox) can be confirmed through lab results/blood work indicating immunity or your immunization record. If you do not have a copy of your immunization record, you can obtain one from Eastern Health’s Public Health Office.

Volunteers residing in St. John’s please call 709-752-4894. Volunteers residing in Burin, Bonavista, Clarenville and Rural Avalon please call 709-229-1571. If you are not from Newfoundland and Labrador, contact the Public Health office in your home province for a copy of your immunization record.

2. Assessment of Tuberculosis (TB)

Prospective volunteers must provide evidence of TB testing (two-step) completed within 12 months prior to their placement. To confirm completion of your TB testing, please ask the health-care provider administering the test to sign the Health Screening Form.
